Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott joined on Friday many people, among them Lebanese expatriates, who have attended Good Friday church services around the nation.
PM Abbott delivered the fifth reading during the liturgy at St Charbel's Church at Punchbowl, in Sydney's south-west, the Sydney based channel 7 News reported.
Across Australia many people have gotten in to the Easter spirit and have participated in this year’s services.
Thousands attended services across NSW including the Stations of the Cross at Sydney's St Mary's Cathedral and the Easter Communion at St Andrew's Cathedral.
The Cathedral of St Stephen in Brisbane hosted a similar mass, performing the Stations of the Cross and an afternoon mass for Good Friday.
The Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday proceeding Easter Sunday.
It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday, or Easter Friday, though the latter properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.
