The Lebanese army arrested on Wednesday a “terrorist group” leader in the Bekaa town of Bar Elias, the military said in a statement. An Army Intelligence Bureau patrol arrested a Syrian national identified as Nabil Saddiq and his Lebanese associate Ali Ayyoub, both wanted on several arrest warrants, the statement added. Saddiq is a “commander in one of the terrorist organizations” operating in the border town of Arsal. Media reports identified Saddiq as a top Islamic State leader operating out of the northeastern Lebanese town of Arsal. ISIS and the Nusra Front terrorist groups have enjoyed a significant presence in Syria's Qalamoun region near Lebanon’s eastern borders. The jihadi groups have frequently clashed with the Lebanese army since last year along the border. Both groups are still holding 25 Lebanese soldiers and policemen as hostages on the outskirts of Arsal after kidnapping more than 30 when they overran the town last August.
