LF leader Geagea urges halt to construction works at Zouk power plant
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said the Zouk power plant dilemma stretches back to decades, calling on the concerned authorities to halt construction works aiming to expand the facility.

Geagea’s statements came two days after Keserwan residents blocked the Zouk Mikael Highway to demand the limiting of poisonous emissions from the Zouk Thermal Power Plant.

“Protests will continue to be held until this problem is settled and the needed funding is agreed upon,” Geagea said in a press conference on Monday.

“The equipment used in the facility dates back to 35 years, hence generators are producing toxic emissions,” the LF chief said, noting that cases of lung cancer and pulmonary diseases are being increasingly reported each year.

As a solution to the problem, Geagea suggested the transfer of the power plant to the Selaata region or the use of gas at the facility.
