UNESCO marks World Press Freedom Day in Beirut

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Beirut organized a conference under the slogan “Let the Press Prosper” to mark the World Press Freedom Day.

During the event, Information Minister Ramzi Jreij, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Sigrid Kaag and other officials delivered speeches, focusing on the importance of the freedom of press and the need to improve it and protect it against all the current challenges resulting from the rapid development of the digital era.

Journalists also spoke during the seminar about their personal experiences in the media field, stressing the need to maintain the independence of the press, despite the growing financial issues and the oppression practiced by some political regimes.
