Fire breaks out in Tripoli’s Abi Samra landfill

A huge fire erupted in a landfill in the region of Abi Samra in the northern city of Tripoli, the cause of which has not yet been identified, the state-run National News agency reported on Thursday.

Black smoke filled the sky over the region while a strong foul-smelling odor emanated from the area.

Lebanon witnesses every summer a series of fires due to the wave of heat that erupts in the country with the lack of specialized teams and equipment to fight them.

Last week, a massive fire broke out at a garbage dump across the Zouk Mikael power plant due to the heat wave in the country.

A couple of months ago, two firefighters died after battling a huge blaze that erupted in Beirut's Mar Elias, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The corporals of the Beirut Fire Department were identified as Mohammad al-Mawla and Adel Saadeh.
