Army Intelligence unit arrests leader of terrorist group in Bekaa

The state-run national News Agency reported on Saturday that the army intelligence arrested the leader of a terrorist group in the Bekaa as he was heading to the outskirts of the border town of Arsal to join armed men.

The agency identified the arrestee as the Syrian national Hazem B who was arrested on Friday in the town of al-Labweh.
He is reportedly the leader of a terror group.

There are concerns that jihadists from the Islamic State, which has captured a large parts of Iraq and Syria, would threaten to shake the security situation in Lebanon.

The army had intensified its patrols in Arsal and other border towns "to prevent any attack on the region,” in light of the intensified battles between Hezbollah and the al-Qaeda-affiliate al-Nusra Front in Syria's al-Qalmoun area.
