FM Bassil: We managed to halt the encroachment on country's presidential powers

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil described the confrontation that occurred with Prime Minister Tammam Salam Thursday as a “spontaneous movement,” noting that it managed to halt the encroachment on the country's president's powers.

In a press conference held at Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun’s residence, Bassil said “we managed today to stop the infringement on the president’s powers;” adding “things are stalled pending a solution [to the problem].”

Bassil also said he will hold a press conference tomorrow at the Foreign Ministry whereby today’s scuffle at the cabinet will be clarified.
