Future Movement leader Hariri urges end to rhetoric of escalation

Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri called Sunday for calm and restraint, stressing the need to halt the “policy of mobilization”, he said in reference to the latest rallies staged by supporters of his political rival, Change and Reform bloc chief MP Michel Aoun.

In a televised address during the Future Movement's annual Iftar, Hariri said “Ramadan is a month for mercy, not for those waging wars against the Syrian people or in other places of the world.”

He also addressed the long delayed presidential elections, saying “bets on changes in Syria will not lead to the election of a president [in Lebanon],” adding “we have not rejected any solution with regards to the presidential crisis.”

“The doors are not closed in the face of any realistic solution to the presidential stalemate and there is no veto on anyone,” Hariri noted, saying “what we proposed a year ago can be capitalized on today.”

On another note, Hariri voiced his support to Prime Minister Tammam Salam who “protected the last legitimate entity” in the country from paralysis, saying “we won’t be involved in any confrontation on sectarian grounds.”

This as, Hariri responded to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, saying “the Decisiveness Storm is still a thorn in the eye of the Iranian scheme,” and reiterated that “the participation in the Syrian war cannot protect Lebanon.”
