Defiant MP Aoun vows escalation, but will give dialogue a chance

Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun said on Thursday that he would take more escalatory steps if needed, stressing however that he would give dialogue a chance.

“We will resort to escalation if needed, but we also support dialogue,” Aoun was quoted as telling reporters in Rabieh.

“We will not allow that our rights as Christians and as patriots be violated,” he added in a chat with reporters.

Aoun‘s comments came a day after he mobilized his supporters to stage street protests against what he considers as a violation to the rights of Christians and the extension of top security officials, namely that of the Lebanese Armed Forces command General Jean Kahwaji .

FPM members held on Wednesday motorized protests and gathered in downtown Beirut's Martyrs Square.
