MP Jumblatt: Protest staged by Lebanese activists in central Beirut is legitimate and rightful

Head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt said Friday that the protest movements staged by Lebanese activists in central Beirut are legitimate and rightful, condemning the barbaric practices implemented by police against demonstrators.

Jumblatt stressed via Twitter, that "the Lebanese people are free to express their opinion regarding the country’s situation and the 'political garbage,' which include political parties and their 'so-called official figures.'"

He added that the majority of the political parties have gone bankrupt, “leaving behind only empty leaders and rhetoric.”

On Wednesday, 'You Stink' anti-corruption environmental activists staged a sit-in in Beirut’s Riad al-Solh Square, throwing waste bags and eggs at the Grand Serail to protest against procrastination in resolving the alarming garbage crisis.

Scuffles flared between activists and security forces who used water cannons to disperse them and thwart their attempts to storm into the Grand Serail.
