Former Kataeb leader Gemayel: Resolving presidential deadlock is not an easy task

Former leader of the Kataeb Party Amine Gemayel paid a visit on Tuesday to Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun in Rabieh.

After the meeting, Gemayel said that resolving the deadlock over the presidential elections is “not an easy task.”

He also noted that the Christian leaders must bear their responsibilities in this file.

Asked about the alleged meeting to be chaired by Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai over the presidential vacuum, Gemayel said that he did not receive any invitation from Bkerke to attend a meeting of the four main Christian figures.

Gemayel concluded by saying that the party’s top priority is to elect a president then drafting an electoral law.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since May 2014 when the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a presidential candidate thwarted the elections.
