“Tripoli demilitarized”: True side of the city

The story tells that Tripoli is the city of extremism and that “weapons are the accessories of its residents”. This is how Lebanese people think of the city which one day it almost became Lebanon’s capital.      

However, the story does not end here, this is a tiny detail. The story is that of the city of Tripoli who was besieged since the civil war until the explosion happened between its residents.          

In the city, three cinemas frequented by the youth existed, but then were closed because of the current situation.        

Depriving Tripoli of all the elements of living is not a coincidence, the residents talk about a systematic impoverishment policy adopted by the politicians in the region along with successive governments.        

Few meters away from Al-Tanak locality, in Al-Maarad Street live all the politicians, and the price of the apartment reaches one million dollars. These apartments overlook the Cornish al-Mina that became a dump instead of investing it in tourism.   

The siege of the city is not only political, but it also seems that security, economic and media parties are involved as well.      

Amid these incidents, a campaign has emerged calling for Tripoli a demilitarized city. The activists in this campaign work on bringing back the cultural, environmental and civil life to Tripoli, as well as highlighting all the beautiful experiences that show the true side of the city.
