The Tripoli-Beirut international highway was reopened after it was blocked by young people with burning tires and metal barriers, on the way leading to Beirut, near "La Palma" resort.

Two hand grenades were thrown on Sunday into Abou Ali River in Tripoli amid sporadic gunfire between Bab al-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.       

Meanwhile, a meeting was held in the residence of Mufti of Tripoli and North Sheikh Malek Chaar. During the meeting, the participants considered that the killing of Sheikh Ahmad Abed al-Wahed and his bodyguard undermine their confidence in the army and the military institution. They also urged President Suleiman, PM Mikati and Speaker Berri to punish those who committed the crime as soon as possible.         

The participants called for self-restraint and urged Akkar’s residents to remain calm, reopen the roads, refrain from burning tires and give the judiciary a chance to perform its duties.           

Chaar called for the issuance of an indictment against Shadi al-Mawlawi and for finalizing the Muslim detainees’ dossier.

Earlier on Sunday all the roads leading to al-Nour Square were cut off in Tripoli as well as other roads and the roads leading to Abou Ali River where blocked with tires and metal barriers.       

Elsewhere, the residents of al-Marj in West Bekaa blocked the al-Marj-Jeb Jennin road with burning tires.
