Berri “thanks” al-Mustaqbal for releasing “false statements”

Speaker Nabih Berri’s office said Monday that the Wikileaks statements that Berri was falsely quoted as saying are like a poisoned apple, adding the Amal movements will always be an integral partner for the resistance and Hezbollah in particular.

The office said that Berri has officially requested that the U.S. Department of State, through its embassy in Beirut, to be presented with the source of the U.S. cables released by Wikileaks, adding that upon the refusal of the State department to meet his demands it became clear for Berri that it is part of the conspiracy; therefore he refused to meet former U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey Feltman during his recent visit to Lebanon.

Wikileaks’ recently released U.S. cable documented a conversation between Berri and Feltman where Berri stated that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s 2006 speech was “stupid and unbelievable”.

In his concluding remarks, Berri ironically said: “We thank al-Mustaqbal daily and their has-been leaders for publishing false statements just as they perpetuated the false witnesses scandal.”
