Waves of flies invade Bekaa

Waves of flies invaded the Central Bekaa region and Riaq area on Tuesday where cattle dung used as fertilizer in farmland and fruit groves as well as random dumpsites are having a significant impact on the environment.

The hot weather in the last three days contributed to the unexpected high quantities of flies, especially around the Litany River. Environmental experts said that these flies look for “hot and dirty” areas for breeding and reproduction, calling on the Ministries of Health and Agriculture to take the necessary measures to end this “disaster”.

The Minister of Agriculture Hussein El Hajj Hassan told LBC that “fly invasion is not the Ministry’s responsibility” calling on the people to use pesticides to kill them.
