Does stalled expenditure issue pose threat to cabinet survival?
PM Najib Mikati ended the unproductive debate during the recent cabinet session without reaching a settlement over appointments.

While the session did not discuss the draft budget, Mikati granted one week to ministers to find a solution in this regard.

In this context, Minister Ahmad Karami told LBCI that the prime minister suspended the sessions hoping that a solution will soon be found for the expenditure crisis.

In turn, Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour confirmed to LBCI that he will not accept a comprehensive solution for previous years’ expenditure. “If the cabinet does not find a solution, it will be placed in the eye of the storm,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mikati’s sources confirmed that the latter did not threaten to resign; “the one-week delay is a wake-up call and all parties are engaged in finding a solution”.
