Introduction to the evening news 13-06-2012
The domestic scene witnessed a race between the dialogue table’s effects, Baabda’s announcement and the negative security and military data circulating between the north and the Bekaa. Despite the fact that the situation in the field has improved remarkably, fears persist. This improved atmosphere gave PM Najib Mikati today the chance to launch a series of meetings aimed at boosting the tourism season.

AFP anticipated that the situation in Syria raises doubts over the pope’s visit to Lebanon.

In Lebanon, escalating tensions prevailed along the borders in the north and in the Bekaa; it was Arsal’s turn today, after Wadi Khaled that was the center of attention yesterday.

As for the case of the Lebanese abductees, exclusive sources told LBCI that residents refused a request from the ICRC to send letters to the abductees; instead, residents called on the ICRC delegation to convey to them letters from the abductees.

In Syria, a series of important and dangerous stances arose, most importantly Russian Foreign Minister who, for the first time accused Washington openly of arming the Syrian rebels. Also on Syria, Reuters quoted bankers in Damascus as saying that Syria printed paper money in Russia to finance the deficit and ensure the payment of salaries and other government expenditures.
