“Eat, drink and expect no other liberties”

MP Boutros Harb said Saturday that “there is a particular party in Lebanon that wants the cabinet to blindly endorse the scandalous electricity plan, threatening disastrous consequences if they fail to do so”, slamming the government’s decision on the plan.

Commenting on the Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai’s position on Syria and Hezbollah, Harb asked “who oppressed the Christians in Lebanon? And who deprived them of their rights? Isn’t it the Syrian regime?” saying, “Do not try to tell me that the Syrian regime protects the Christians in Lebanon”. Harb added: “As for the Christians themselves, the Syrian regime is telling them ‘eat, drink and expect no other liberties.”

Harb stated that “the Syrian people have proven that they have a revolutionary spirit, so why worry about the regime successor?”, adding “In religion, Rai knows better, while in politics we do, and we cannot picture ourselves on a collision course with Bkerke even if we shared different views.”

Harb added that he is waiting for Rai’s return to ask him about the reasons behind his position.
