Patriarch Rai: France knows I am keen on the Patriarchate’s constants

Maronite Patriarch Beshara Boutros Rai said that France knew he was talking objectively and impartially and that he was keen on the Maronite Patriarchate’s constants.

“The consultations I held in France were serious and objective”, Rai said as soon as he returned to Beirut. “French officials asked many questions and waited for many answers in return”, he said.

Many figures, particularly March 14 Christians, have criticized Rai's Thursday statement that Syrian President Bashar Assad is "open-minded" and should be given more chances to implement reforms.

“My statements were misinterpreted”, Rai said calling on the media figures to be objective and to "show the truth as it is."
