Layyoun: Rai’s statements protect Lebanon

The Minister of Culture Gaby Layyoun said that the Maronite Patriarch Bshara Rai, in his recent speech, expressed Christians’ concerns in Lebanon.

Layyoun added that the Free Patriotic Movement supports Rai’s statements and saw in them a means to protect the country and its Christians.

In an interview to “Sawt el Mada” Layyoun said, “We are surprised by the reactions on Rai’s statements and, as the Patriarch said, we should look deeper into things to realize the scale of the threats.”

Asked about the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), Layyoun stated that “STL funding is a controversial issue that should be discussed and we are not comfortable dealing with it."
