A draft agreement to satisfy both contract workers and EDL

Calls and negotiations conducted overnight produced what is now a draft agreement that would satisfy all parties including the EDL contract workers, the EDL itself and the Ministry of Energy, in addition to preserving the contract workers’ rights.    

One of the negotiating parties told LBCI that there are procedures preventing the announcement of the agreement; including paying contract workers their wages for strike days and the job sustainability of those who are expected to join contracting companies.         

In this regard, it is noteworthy that contracts usually last for 3 years, something that contract workers deem as unsustainable [regardless of political affiliations]. The negotiating party pointed out that concerned parties are discussing whether to suspend the strike before announcing the agreement or wait for the announcement to suspend the strike.       

Meanwhile, the EDL remains at the mercy of these negotiations, as contract workers who are still closing the company’s main gates, allowed temporary access to maintenance workers to repair the failures that led to the increase of power rationing.
