Life in Sidon returns to normal after month-long stalemate

Sidon’s traffic returned to normal on Thursday as roads were reopened near the city’s northern entrance. This comes after Sheikh Ahmad Assir agreed to lift his sit-in.     

All tents were removed on Wednesday night except for certain equipment that are currently being dismantled.                               

Commenting on the material damages entailed by the protest, owners of stores in Sidon told LBCI that they regret the loss they endured throughout the month of September.        

In this context, Popular Nasserite Movement head Osama Saad will hold a press conference at 12:00 to speak on the lifting of Assir’s sit-in.         

Assir has defied repeated calls to end his sit-in which has allegedly affected the merchants’ livelihoods and caused congested traffic in the town.        

Accordingly, many futile counter-protests were staged to pressure Assir into suspending his sit-it.         
Assir began his protest against Hezbollah’s “extra-state" arms on June 28 and has repeatedly stressed that he won’t end the sit-in until his demands are met.
