Sources from the Lebanese Democratic Party told LBCI that “what happened in Aley was an armed ambush to assassinate Minister Gebran Bassil,” adding that the shooters were members from the Progressive Socialist Party who did not recognize that the convoy belonged to Minister Saleh al-Gharib.
A shooting hit the convoy of Minister al-Gharib in the town of Qabr Chamoun, killing two of his bodyguards.
Sources had also informed LBCI that Minister Bassil decided to cancel his visit to Kfarmatta after the tension erupted in the region.
However, PSP sources had said that the shooting took place when young men were removing burned tires from the region of al-Chahar, adding that al-Gharib’s convoy passed through and the bodyguards opened fire.
