Miled Kfoury, Riyadh Hijab, Hassan al-Meqdad and Mikhail Bogdanov, four names topped the
events for today. The first, Miled Kfoury, has been out of sight since he played
the main role in the case of Michel Samaha’s arrest.
The second, Riyadh
Hijab, made his first media appearance since his defection, calling on Syrian
officials to join the revolution. The third, Hassan al-Meqdad, was
introduced by the Free Syrian Army as a sniper belonging to Hezbollah arrested
in Damascus, while his family denied his relation with Hezbollah. The fourth, Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian deputy
Foreign Minister, denied what the Saudi al-Watan Daily quoted him as saying
that Maher Assad is wounded and that President Bashar Assad accepted to step
down.
These four
personalities may have nothing in common, but they sure turned the Lebanese
people’s life into an exciting action movie.
Because this era is not for politics, the fate of the
dialogue table remains unknown. While the dialogue was supported by the
Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai in the second day of his visit to Akkar, the
Future bloc did not issue a clear stance regarding their participation. As for
the President Michel Sleiman, he kicked off his visit to Jbeil.
On the socio-economic level, the government, incapable of
almost everything, is still able to challenge the teachers and the civil
servants.
In this context, the draft law prepared by the ministerial
committee charged with studying the pay sacle, which was expected to be
discussed in Thursday’s cabinet session, includes a retreat from the promises
of the Union Coordinating Committee, promises on which was based the suspension
of the boycott of state exams’ correction.
This will lead to the resumption of strikes and boycott of the
correction of the state exams’ second session, threatening by that the next
academic year.
