Geagea: there is no confidence in the government

LF Leader Samir Geagea denounced Friday, the events that took place in the last two days in Lebanon.

In a press conference held from Maarab, the LF leader commented on the recent events which overtook the country, describing them as “chaotic”.
On the Mokdad Clan, and its military wing, Geagea said that the events which were attributed to the clan were done “though” it and not “by” it.

"We as the LF and as the March 14 bloc stress that there should be no mix up between the issue of the 11 Lebanese detainees in Syria and the events of recent days.

“The lack of confidence in the government by these clans, families and people is what lead to the escalation of events” Geagea said.

"How can you discredit your faith in the government when you are the ones who elected it?" Geagea asked in a question targeting the Clan and its affiliates.

Geagea added that “the cabinet does not represent them and it’s a well-known fact”. And still, even with hundreds of detainees in Syria arrested in Lebanon by the Syrian Army, the LF only used the democratic channels to demand their release. “We also do not trust the government but that doesn’t mean that we shall resort to an armed revolution”, he said.

LF leader stated that the latest events aim to pressure President Sleiman and PM Mikati after the arrest of former Minister Samaha which aggravated Syrian officials. Geagea also considered that the responsibility lies on the President and PM to try and rescue the situation or they will witness “the vanishing” of the Lebanese state.

Geagea emphasized that the current situation is “ironic” and turned the Lebanese cabinet into a “mockery”. “The cabinet doesn’t have the right to toy with the fate of the Lebanese people”, he added.

Commenting of Samaha’s case, LF leader said that the “evidence is incontestable given that Syrian Major General Ali Mamlouk sent explosives with Samaha to target Sunnite figures”. Geagea considered that Customs Directorate will be responsible for any explosives entering Lebanon. He also stressed that the way Samaha was arrested is “normal” given his involvement in a “major terrorism act”.
