Kanaan: Transparency in cabinet regardless of affiliation

The Finance and Budget Committee studied the draft law pertaining to the exceptional allocation of 8.9 trillion Lebanese pounds in the public budget and the allocation of 500 billion Lebanese pounds in the annexed budget of the Ministry of Communications.

The Committee’s chair MP Ibrahim Kanaan said that the committee has asked the cabinet, the finance ministry specifically, to provide details and clarifications because “it is the first time that such a large amount of money is requested”, he said.

Kanaan said that the idea of uncontrolled exceptional allocations is not adopted by the Parliament, adding “whatever the flavor of the cabinet and whatever the affiliation, transparency and control will continue and legislation should be based on the public accounting act, the Lebanese Constitution and nothing else”.

Kanaan added that the committee will continue to study this project Tuesday during a session at to be held at 10:30.
