El Hajj Hassan intercepts toxic pesticides smuggled through Beirut harbor
In cooperation with the Directorate of Custom Services, the Intelligence department and the Internal Security Forces (ISF), Agriculture Minister Hussein El Hajj Hassan intercepted an illegal shipment of methyl bromide, a poisonous pesticide, at Beirut’s harbor on Thursday.

“Methyl bromide, considered a restricted use pesticide because of its acute toxicity to applicators, is being imported into Lebanon under a fictitious company not registered with the Agriculture Ministry”,Hajj Hassan said adding that there was an international resolution to reduce the consumption of methyl bromide.

El Hajj Hassan called for an investigation to uncover the reason behind this forgery, adding that thecompany that imported these pesticides is not entitled to carry out imports operations for it is of ananonymous source.
