Cypriot Defense Minister at Yarzeh

Visiting Cypriot Defense minister Demetrius Alcibiades held a round of talks with Lebanese counterpart Fayez Ghosn at the ministry of national Defense in Yarzeh today.

Talks reportedly bore on regional matters and developments of concern in addition to a prospective delineation of the economic zone of cooperation on the Mediterranean seabed.                

Minister Ghosn reportedly expressed desire for a political settlement between Assad's regime and the opposition bound to end violence and bloodshed.

He duly briefed Cypriot visitors over Lebanese army policing of the northern eastern border as well as assisting UNIFIL in its peace-keeping efforts in the South.                   

The minister reiterated need for providing the Lebanese military with essential hardware while his Cypriot counterpart said Europe and Cyprus remain opposed to a direct military intervention in Syria. He concluded that Lebanon's secure position is a bulwark for regional peace and stability.                 

The Cypriot minister also visited the Baabda Palace where he met President Sleiman and discussed with him military and security cooperation. He also discussed bilateral relations with PM Najib Mikati.
