Souaid to LBCI: Sayyed Nasrallah placed us in a confrontation with the West

March 14 General-Secretariat Coordinator Fares Souaid said that consensus on an electoral law will be reached within the next few weeks, adding “we can now say that an electoral dialogue workshop has been launched.”     

Souaid told Nharkom Said on Thursday that according to the Orthodox Gathering’s proposal, sects constitute the different electoral districts. 

“When Christians agree on an electoral law, House Speaker Nabih Berri will obstruct it since it will not suit him”, he said adding that the single-member districts formula is adopted in western and developed countries.

Souaid considered that the current government cannot oversee the electoral process, stressing that the National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt will agree with March 14 officials on the electoral law.   

On Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's speech denouncing the anti-Islam film "Innocence of Islam", Souaid said that the latter had placed Lebanon in a state of "cultural confrontation with the West" hours following the departure of Pope Benedict XVI who had made calls from Lebanon for a multi-religious dialogue conveying a message of peace to both Christians and Muslims.”
