Aoun: I fear extremism will grow stronger if Syria falls

Head of the Reform and Change bloc, MP Michel Aoun, stressed on Saturday that a new electoral law must be inevitably approved. Aoun's assertion came during a stopover in the Jbeil village of Beer-el-Heet.

He challenged critics saying the law would pass totally contrary to their desire.

The General retorted that the 1960 electoral law would in no way save them and they would be the first losers to suffer during the upcoming elections.

He also alluded to the fraudulent practices including massive money theft taking place since 1992.

Aoun concluded that Reform and Change is essential for rendering them accountable for their theft.

From Qartaba, Aound added that stability in the country is safeguarded and preserved; however, he warned of Syria's losing the battle, which would give way for extremists to grow stronger, especially in the North of Lebanon.

"We cannot tolerate any bizarre entities on our land that threaten our existence," Aoun added.

He went on to state that national unity remains the first factor in defending and protecting the nation.

"This is only possible through openness to one another and clarity in dealing with each other, which is currently non-existent due to the fact that some sides are connected with outside sources," Aoun added.

Aoun's words came during his 2-day Byblos tour.
