Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, met this Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Following the meeting, Mikati said that he briefed Speaker Berri on the meetings which he held in New York. He added that they also discussed a number of domestic and administrative issues, mainly the electoral law and the approach that it had taken in the Parliament.
Responding to a question about the electoral law, Mikati said that he sensed Berri's desire to have an electoral law in harmony with the Taef Accord, first, and well- represent all parties second. Mikati added that he "believes that proportionality project is the best solution for Lebanon not only on the short term but also on the long one", pointing out that such a law would form a national base allowing all parties to participate in the Parliament and in the legislation.
