Rai: I sought France’s help to equip LAF
Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai revealed that he sought France’s help to equip the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) during his last visit to France.

In his address held during the spiritual Christian-Muslim Summit, Rai said that if France wants Hezbollah to be disarmed then they must provide support for the LAF.

Rai stressed that PM Najib Mikati and former PM Saad Hariri must work side by side for the sake of the country’s armed forces.

“Lebanon does not endorse or oppose any regime”, Rai stressed, hoping that Syria’s turmoil will not lead to a civil war between the Sunnis and the Alawites that could extend into Lebanon.

Patriarch Rai regarded Israel’s appeal to the international community to be recognized as a Jewish state as a challenge to Muslims, adding that this will encourage extremism among Muslims, Christians and Jews.
