Diab: We are working to reach a vision to solve subsidies crisis

Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab asserted on Tuesday that the subsidies were misused, adding that work is being done in order to reach a solution for the spending cuts in coordination with the Central Bank and the concerned parliamentary committees.

Diab’s comments were made during the economy plan meeting at the Grand Serail whereby he stressed that the suggestion to provide the Lebanese people with a ration card was tabled since last June “so that the support would be directed to people in need only.”

“We are working to reach a vision to solve the subsidies crisis,” he added.

"The aim of rationalizing subsidies is to use existing funds for a longer period without the citizens paying the price," Diab stressed, adding that "the Ministry of Economy is concerned with several aspects to solve the subsidy problem."

On another note, Diab said that the capital control law must be passed “in order to control the movement of remittances abroad to preserve the financial and economic future.”
