Sleiman discusses current political crisis

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman pursued his discussions concerning the current political crisis and met at with Head of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammad Raad, US Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly and the Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri.

Raad did not deliver any statement following his meeting with the president, however later announced that his bloc is ready for any political solution which could put an end to the crisis through dialogue.

For his part, Asiri said that KSA is keen on Lebanon's national security and calls for distancing the shadow of civil strife.

Earlier, Presidential sources had told AFP that the President, and throughout his political consultative sessions held with several of the country’s officials will be discussing means of the formation of a new government. Upon the agreement on the shape of the new government will the prospect of the current cabinet’s resignation be considered, the sources added.

The sources said that the National Dialogue committee forms a political umbrella for all Lebanese factions, with decisions referred to cabinet and parliament respectively.

Sleiman received a clear message from both the Europeans and the Americans stipulating the West’s opposition to a political void in the country, AFP said.
