Introduction to the evening news 25-10-2012

From Jeddah to Beit al-Wasat to Sadat Tower, the political scene is overwhelmed with consultations on the pre-conditions pertaining to the resignation of the government before partaking in any discussion over the new government. At Baabda Palace, the President is holding public and hidden consultations over all possibilities:        

From Beit al-Wasat and following her meeting with Nader Hariri, U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly stressed the necessity to preserve the continuity of Lebanese institutions and government action to ensure stability, security and justice in Lebanon.      

However, in Sadat Tower, former PM Fouad Siniora announced that there is no political void, stressing that the constitution is very clear in this regard. “Saying that the government must not resign before agreeing on an alternative is unconstitutional," he said.        

At Baabda Palace, consultations are intense and continuous in a bid to reach a solution to the current crisis which is slowly turning into an impasse.         

Meanwhile, an FBI team and Lebanese security apparatuses mainly the ISF’s Information Division proceeded with their work under tight wraps.          

In Syria, the Eid truce is both in force and not in force:            

The Syrian regime said it will commit to the truce but reserved the right to respond to rebel attacks and bombings while the Free Syrian Army said it will adhere to the truce but demanded the release of detainees. As for opposition Ansar al-Islam fighters, they said that they will not commit to the ceasefire, doubting that the Syrian army will honor it.
