Qabbani, Kabalan speak for peace on Eid al-Adha

The president of the Higher Shiite Council Mufti Abdel Amir Kabalan delivered a sermon to all Lebanese on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, urging all citizens to "stay away from conflicts, and unite against the power of evil." Kabalan stressed that all Lebanese parties, no matter their political or sectarian affiliation, are equally responsible.

The mufti also called on Lebanese officials to support the Lebanese government, the army and the security forces "to stop the violators and to lift all political covers off those who encourage sectarian strife."

For his part, Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani reiterated calls for peace, stressing that toppling the government via the streets is unacceptable, adding that the Prime Ministry is a "Sunnite symbol that should be respected."

On the assassination of late Gen. Hassan Qabbani said, "it is an episode in the conspiracy planned to destroy Lebanon and its unity."

The Grand Mufti added that those who are promoting sectarian tensions to win politically are "fools", emphasizing that it's time to impose political rules.
