Introduction to the evening news 05-11-2012

Will history witness another Bush – Al Gore scenario?

All eyes are on the U.S. presidential elections amid a tight race with polls showing Obama with a slight advantage over his rival Mitt Romney. However, this difference does not necessarily count given the margin of error in these types of polls.

In the wait of these historic results, a surprising royal order was issued in Saudi Arabia relieving Interior Minister Prince Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz of his job and appointing Prince Mohammed bin Nayef instead. The appointment took place hours after al Qaeda-related extremists who had been released from Saudi prisons killed two Saudi border guards.

On the Syrian front, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused foreign powers of encouraging the Syrian opposition to continue fighting, adding that Moscow is supplying arms to Syria but only under Soviet-era commitments.
