Hassan: There is fear of losing medical equipment and medicine needed to treat injured
Caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hassan said on Monday that the death toll of Akkar fuel tank explosion reached 27, adding that a number of bodies were not identified yet with 7 crucial cases in hospitals.
Hassan’s comments were made during a radio interview whereby he noted that 3 people with severe burns were evacuated for treatment in Istanbul’s hospitals.
“Lebanese and Turkish medical teams decided not to transfer a fourth injured person because there was a danger to his life and was transferred to the Jeitawi Hospital,” he added.
Hassan concluded by praising all medical staff in Lebanon, adding however that there is fear of losing fuel, medical equipment and medicine that are necessary to treat the injured.
At least 28 people were killed and 79 injured when a fuel tank exploded in northern Lebanon early on Sunday dawn.

Military and security sources said that the army had seized a fuel storage tank hidden by black marketers and was handing out gasoline to residents when the explosion occurred.

Lebanon is suffering from a severe fuel shortage, leading to long lines at gas stations and extended blackouts. The disaster happened in the town of Altalil, in the northern Akkar region that is considered as one of Lebanon's poorest areas.

About 200 people were nearby at the time of the explosion, eyewitnesses said.
