REPORT: Lebanon celebrates 69th Independence Day [PHOTOS]

                     
A military ceremony was held this morning at Shafik Wazzan Avenue in Beirut, in the presence of senior officials from the Lebanese government, on the occasion of the 69th commemoration of Independence.                      

President of the Republic Michel Sleiman, House Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati arrived at the avenue to attend the military parade organized by the army.                        

A short film was diffused at the beginning of the ceremony, depicting soldiers telling the story of Independence to small children while assuring them that they will protect them and the country.               

Army and ISF units then participated in the parade in the presence of the 3 top officials, Army Commander Jean Kahwaji and several political, diplomatic and social figures.

After the ceremony, the top officials headed to the Baabda Palace where they held a brief meeting prior to receiving felicitations from popular crowds, official representatives and various dignitaries for the occasion.
