Introduction to the evening news 22-11-2012

"The eight-day war" on Gaza was put to an end, opening the door for the estimation of winnings and losses and the evaluation of roles and masses.                 

Ending the war or suspending it, or even imposing a truce, placed Egypt in the position of the only regional unchallenged reference, with the US blessing, raising the issue of the exclusion of the Iranian role and its repercussions.              

But the irony stands in the fact that once the war in Gaza was put to an end, vigorous attempts appeared to be set up to plunge Lebanon in an "alternative war." Today, a rocket set for launching was dismantled, less than twelve hours after the firing of two rockets that failed to cross the borders, and three days after the dismantling of two other rockets.                      

While Gaza tries to take a breather, Syria is holding its breath amid continuous military operations. However, a firm Syrian position was taken regarding Turkey's request to deploy "Patriot" missiles along the border with Syria, while France sees no reason to reject such request, noting that it is a defensive move.               

Meanwhile, Lebanon celebrated the 69th anniversary of its independence with a military parade held by the Lebanese Army. Remarkably, March 14 leaders participated in the ceremony and went to Baabda Palace to congratulate the President, the House Speaker and the Prime Minister.                                    

On the other hand, an important constitutional development took place in Egypt, as President Mohammad Mursi issued a constitutional declaration giving him the right to take any decision to protect the revolution, shielding his decisions against any appeal.
