Cabinet examines 159-item agenda
The cabinet convened a plenary session in Baabda palace, Wednesday afternoon. The session was chaired by President Michel Sleiman and attended by PM Najib Mikati and all the ministers.

The cabinet looked into a 159-item agenda, most importantly appointing a president for the Lebanese University (LU) and other urgent items that should be examined.

The session was preceded by a closed meeting between the president and the PM to discuss the overall situation and the latest developments.

Education Minister Hassan Diab said that the ministry is supporting the issue of the contracting professors in the LU since it respects all academic laws. “The LU should offer a diversity of majors and needs full-time professors. As soon as a university president is appointed, this issue will be settled”, Diab added.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said that security measures around the ESCWA building are provisional, adding that a press conference on the electoral draft law will be held next week.

“The ministry is taking all appropriate measures to curb the phenomena of pickpocketing”, Charbel added.

The Change and Reform bloc ministers arrived to the session wearing white shirts reading “Vote for Jeita grotto”, which embodies the campaign launched by Tourism Minister Fadi Abboud.
