Ain Saade residents standing their ground

The residents of Ain Saade continued demonstrating for the second day in a row, to protest against the decision to install high voltage power lines above their houses, amidst tight security measures. 

The residents of Ain Saade and Ain Najem, who gathered in the early hours of the day, blocked the street to prevent the company trucks in charge of installing the power lines from arriving to the site. Exclusive sources told LBC TV station that the residents also prepared themselves to set up camp in other areas where high voltage power lines can be installed until the deadline for the works, which is scheduled for tomorrow, comes to an end. 

The residents voiced their perseverance to stand in the face these attempts that threaten their health.   

Secretary General for Catholic schools in Lebanon Father Marwan Tabet told LBC that he joined the demonstrators to show support for the students and the region’s resident who are protesting against a decision that endangers their lives, adding that medical reports confirm this threat.

“We will stand our ground as long as the decision will stand”, Tabet said, calling on the concerned officials to put an end to the problem by installing the high voltage power lines underground.
