Sleiman: we are keen on protecting Lebanon from negative repercussions

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, continued on Thursday talks with senior officials of Greece, where he had been this morning on a state visit.         

After winding up his meeting with his Greek counterpart, Karolos Papoulias, Sleiman headed to the headquarters of the Premiership, Megaron Maximou, for a meeting with Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras.           

The pair held talks over the Lebanese-Greek bilateral relations and the means to reinforce them, with both the Lebanese and Greek official delegations attending.         

President Sleiman maintained that Lebanon highly appreciated the supportive position of the Greek government, particularly before international stances in terms of Greece's calls to respect resolution 1701 and participation in the UNIFIL. He stressed the need to protect Lebanon from any negative repercussion caused by regional conflicts.           

He also said that Greece is the cradle of democracy, calling for boosting cooperation through exchanging officials visits, enhancing coordination on the levels of tourism and energy resources, and forming a joint ministerial committee.
