PM Mikati says elections will take place on time

Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Wednesday that the country "is facing a difficult reality.

“However, we will certainly not give up and we will continue to work to put the country back on the path of recovery," he added at the beginning of the Cabinet session.

Mikati also stressed that "the uproar that accompanied the statements of Deputy Prime Minister Saadeh al-Chami was intended and with the aim of spreading panic and despair among the Lebanese.”

“What al-Chami said was aimed at inviting everyone to cooperate to get out of the difficult reality and to describe this reality in a scientific way."

As for the upcoming elections, he said that the Ministry of the Interior is proceeding with steps to conduct this entitlement, adding that decrees related to laws on financing the elections were signed this morning after receiving them yesterday from the Parliament and were referred to the Presidency.

He concluded by stressing that the elections will take place on time because it “constitutes a demand of the Lebanese people before it is a demand of Lebanon’s friends.”
