Lebanese lawyer files a complaint against Syrian Interior Minister, accuses him of genocide

Lebanese Lawyer Tarek Shendib filed a complaint against Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar who is currently in Beirut receiving treatment after he was injured in an explosion that targeted the Interior Ministry in Damascus on December 12th.

According to Shendib, "Shaar is involved in the murdering of hundreds of persons in Lebanon when he was a security official in charge of a Lebanese northern city back in 1986."

He added that the accusations include committing genocides, ethnic discrimination, political murder and assassination of religious men and children in the region of Bab –el Tebbaneh where the majority of the residents are Sunnites.

The complaint was filed before the General Prosecution in the North and states the following: “On the 19th of December 1986, the defendant Mohamad al-Shaar and a number of his aides and 'Lebanese criminals' entered the region of Bab-el Tebbaneh in Tripoli and killed more than 600 residents.”

Shendib demanded to arrest Shaar, interrogate him and refer him to the Investigative Judge in the North.

Shaar was transferred last Wednesday to AUB Medical Center in Beirut.
