Introduction to the evening news 26-12-2012

Damascus, Moscow and China seem to be preparing a new "deal" under the patronage of the international envoy Lakhdar Ibrahimi who will be visiting Moscow on Saturday after having met with the Chinese ambassador in Damascus. The Syrian vice Foreign Minister Faisal al-Meqdad and his assistant ambassador Ahmad Arnous also headed for Moscow on Wednesday from Beirut International Airport.            

These movements come after rumors spread about forming a transitional government without any role for President Assad; however, the opposition refuses to engage in any discussions if the Syrian President does not step down.           

Also on the Syrian scene, the Syrian Interior Minister Malek Shaar returned to Damascus after receiving treatment in the American University Hospital in Beirut for wounds sustained in a rebel bomb attack earlier this month.              

On the other hand, Egypt started to recover after President Mohammad Morsi signed the new Constitution, while his first speech after the referendum will be on Saturday.             

On the Lebanese level, the appointments began to fill next year's agenda, among which the meeting of the parliamentary subcommittee in charge of discussing the electoral law on the eighth of January 2013.
