REPORT: UL contract teachers threat to take escalatory measures

Lebanese University contract teachers organized a protest on Friday on the road leading to the Baabda Palace to express their complete rejection of the postponement of discussing their file during cabinet sessions and relating it to the formation of the university’s council.

The protesters held candles and demanded to be granted permanent tenure. In this context, Dr Mirvat Ballout said she fears that this postponement aims at weakening the Lebanese University.

The contract teachers threatened to take extreme escalatory measures, including ceasing teaching all year long, if a law to grant them permanent tenure is not endorsed during the next cabinet session.
