Blinken congratulates Lebanon and Israel on finalizing their agreement

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated on Thursday the governments of Lebanon and Israel on finalizing their agreement, facilitated by the United States, to establish permanent maritime border, considering that this historic achievement will have a profound impact on enhancing security, stability and prosperity in the region, and proves the transformative power of American diplomacy.

In a statement, Blinken noted that this agreement meaningfully highlights the United States' vision for a more secure, integrated, and prosperous Middle East, and, equally beneficial to both Israel and Lebanon, will advance Israel's economic and security interests, and will encourage much-needed foreign investment by the Lebanese people while facing a devastating economic crisis.

He then stressed that the region, and its surroundings, will soon be able to reap the benefits of these energy resources, which will improve security, stability and prosperity.

“This historic agreement would not have been possible without perseverance and diplomacy by the leaders of Lebanon and Israel, and the hard work of US mediator Amos Hochstein and the US State Department's work team in pushing the two sides towards the agreement,” Blinken explained.

The US State Department also stressed that this achievement will have long-term repercussions on the region.
