Parliament holds 8th election session
The first round of the parliamentary session dedicated to elect a new president as its previous ones, after the Parliament failed anew to elect a new head of state.

Out of 111 votes, the results came as follows:

37 votes for Michel Moawad

52 blank ballots

4 votes for Issam Khalifeh

9 voted for “A new Lebanon”

4 cancelled votes

2 votes for Ziad Baroud

1 vote for “For Lebanon”

1 vote for Badri Daher

1 vote for Bechara Abi Younes

Another session was scheduled to be held next Thursday as quorum was lost for the second round.

Following the session, Deputy Speaker MP Elias Bou Saab announced that he voted for former Interior Minister Ziad Baroud, adding that the election of a new president needs a consensus among the political parties.

For his part, presidential candidate MP Michel Moawad said that his battle is for 'a sovereign, reformist Lebanon," adding that he will not accept "the logic of the presence of weapons within the state."
