Demolition of Beit al-Daay’a in Breeh, while Jumblatt visits Bkerke

Conflicting reports emerged on Friday regarding the atmosphere prevailing over the town of Breeh following the demolition of Beit al-Daay’a. While a number of residents stressed that tensions are prevailing over the town, a statement signed by the residents of Breeh, was issued denying such reports.

Earlier in the day, Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Rai met with the head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt at the patriarchal residence of Bkerke.

"After the Patriarch’s visit to the Chouf last summer, we promised him to heal the wounds of the past," Jumblatt said following the meeting.

He added that Beit al-Daay’a was demolished in Breeh to bring incidents that occurred in the Jabal to a close and to open a path to reconciliation and dialogue.

"All violations against Christian lands were removed in Breeh", he said adding that a reconciliation ceremony will soon be launched.
